Ximending , one of the most important business districts of Taipei, is the area in western part of the city that is surrounded by Zhonghua Rd., Kangding Rd., Hankou St., and Chengdu Rd. It was built during the colonial period of Japan with the functions of entertainment.
The word “ding” means the entertainment and business area in Japanese. The combination of history and modernity contributes to adolescent culture and historical humanity culture prospects.

In the 1990s , the completion of the Bannan Line, Taipei Mass Rapid Transportation, and broadening of Zhonghua Rd. strengthened the inter-connection of Ximending with other places, such as the Taipei Railway Station. The convenient transportation brings more tourists and visitors to Ximending as a result.

In 1998, a renewal project to revitalize Ximending, including store renovations, bench installations, introduction of facilities for culture and art events, and improvement of street lighting system, was carried out by the Taipei City Government.

In addition to the hardware introduced by the local government, a variety of laws or mechanisms were also set up in order to refresh and accelerate the charm of this historical area. One of the achievements is the renaissance of the Red House Theatre that has made the area a spot not only for artistic gatherings but also for vendors or stores to promote their businesses with creativity.

On the other hand, Ximending is also a stronghold of Taipei’s film industry that as many as seven movie theatres run businesses within this commercial center. The Golden Horse Festival, regarded as the nation’s Oscar in Taiwan, is also held here annually.

Here shoppers can easily taste different kinds of flavors that might have lasted beyond their imaginations. Since the district is particularly popular among young generation aged from 16 to 25, most newfangled clothing as well as adorable commodities can be easily seen on the streets of this area, symbolizing the Ximending’s leading position in fashion. After a series of innovations under the efforts of the government, Ximending finally becomes one of the most fascinating shopping centers in Taipei. The completion of tourists and visitors friendly facilities has also stimulated the business of this area. Its ultimate goal is to turn this area into a shopping paradise for shoppers with its superior business environment. The unique goods and thoughtful services make Ximending the best place for visitors to enjoy themselves.
